whew!
what a fucking week/weekend
after the stress of finals, I headed out to Los Angeles for Teach For America. Met lots of great people, incredible people, very many good looking girls as well.
anyways, between studying for a test and drinking beers, I have already made some connections with people out there. It is so cool to have people around you that are in a similar mindset and mission. It was the most talked about topic of the night. We were pretty much in awe of eachother and we all agreed that if we work hard, we can do something.
anyways, enough of that stuff.. I had quite an interesting first night with some fellow people.
after the concierge recommended the "alpine hut" we headed out there. we were in for quite an experience. as we entered the alpine hut, a bavarian/german beer house, we heard the sweet sounds of old country music from a live band. upon further examination, we noticed that there was line dancing going on! not only that, but the line dancers were predominantly hispanic and japanese! it all seemed to say to us "welcome to L.A."
the next day, we interviewed with some schools. I was extremely lucky to get hired on the spot. pending test results (hehe) , I will be a new special ed. teacher at Markham Middle School, located in the city of Watts (south central). I am so excited and scared for this huge challenge ahead of me. I am confident that I will do my best for myself and more importantly, the children.
anyways, i'm back in KC and its off to columbia in a couple of days to finish packing... talk to you all later
