I realize that this current week is almost over, but I want to talk about this last weekend.
apartment hunting is hard. but, I think we have found a cool place in echo park. a little shady, but lots of charm, and walking distance to silverlake eats and shops.
but the highlight of my trip was finding
Jollibee. What is jollibee you ask? its basically the filipino mcdonalds.
seeing the sign almost brought a tear to me eye.

all the posters and pictures showcase filipino faces, actors and such. even the kids meal prizes are filipino, endorsed by the filipino education association. its like they took a jollibee from the philippines and plopped it right into downtown LA. Rachel was one of the 3 white people I saw in the restaurant.
its not just a hamburger, its a Yumburger. not fried chicken, but chickenjoy. its your basic hamburger joint, but with a filipino twist. you want spaghetti and chicken? you got it? a mango/apple pie? of course.
the treat of the year though is Halo Halo. like other south asian desserts, it incorporates ice, ice cream, sweet beans and bread fruits. its too rich and sweet for me, but rachel enjoyed it.

of course, the jollibee mascot is the best. and i had to get a picture.

I wasn't even hungry, and settled on a diet coke.
later that evening we had some vegan chinese food in monterey park.
a good weekend.
my friends eddy and james come into town for a while, it'll be good to see my homies.
oh yeah. school is almost over! two more days!
due to the wonder of child labor, my room is spotless. all is left is to finish grades and turn my keys in. three years of markham under my belt, time to move on.
like..wow
its only 8am...not heading to school, but to the beach. bbq with the kiddos.
covered in ash and remnants of long-ago charred meat.
"what do we do with his body?..yet, i'm so hungry....what do we do with his body?"
watch wondershowzen..it'll fuck you up.
SAVE THE SOUTH CENTRAL FARM!!!!
I sit here in my classroom, feeling quite helpless.
The Sheriff's dept is evicting the tenants of the south central farm.
Having spent the night at this beautiful place, a place where 350 families are growing healthy food for themselves in the middle of an industrial zone, I am extremely saddened by the visuals of bulldozers plowing over the maize, herbs, and rare south american indigenous plants.
there is much more shit going on that i'm not well-informed about. but certain community leaders are not making the situation any better.
it makes me feel like crying that people, who are trying to help themselves and their community, are being taken away from their means of survival.
for another factory?
for $15 million?
ralph horowitz, shame on you.
shame on me for not doing more.
