walking through walls
i've been in love with idea of equite for quite some time
equity, not equality
equality could be summed up as Jorge and Keshawna both get one egg. now in this reality, an egg is not just an egg, it is a non-egg, but the non-egg represents government given resources. Jorge is a rich male, he is in upper management. Kewshana is a single mother, and a middle class female, and has reached the glass ceiling at her company. Keshawna needs more eggs because she does not make enough cash to survive yet, she gets the same amount of eggs as jorge because its "fair"
now, lets have the same situations
but, with equity
Jorge still gets one egg, and he is still doing well, while Keshawna gets an amount of eggs she needs. Nowhere is Jorge stiffed, or somehow being taken advantage of because Keshawna needs those eggs... Keshawna was basically given what she needs because of her situation. In this case, Keshawna got more than Jorge.
some may argue with me, but don't you think we should look beyond "getting the same" and look forward to "getting what you need?"
its not a new, idea, just one that likes to get ignored...
the new rankings in terms of a favorite color
1.brown
2.grey
3.blue
her stay was brief, lots of time spent in traffic.
i got to hold her hand as we looked at strange conceptual art. I got to see a face i've been waiting two months to see..
that and a whole lot more made these last few days great.
i miss you already...
robots chase me in my dreams
after watching the series of debates, I'm a bit upset. This election isn't giving me much real choice, I'm just having the choice to vote for the lesser of the two evils. two rich white men, robots in suits, hardline party followers that don't really have what it takes for change.
yes, you can go on and say, well vote for Nader, vote for someone else, well we could do that. this two party system is shitty, and we have to quit saying "wait next year" for an independent vote. we really need more voices that represent the multi-faceted weave of this country. the democrats aren't much better than the republicans. they just use a less conservative lean on things, not really caring about all people. remember, democrats, republicans ALL have something to gain and lose in this election. partisan politics, mixed with career-longevity seeking politicians, and the constant reach around relationship with corporations will never get the job done.
those who will suffer the most, women, disabled, poor, homosexual, people of color will get stuck with the bill and the huge burden of trying to convince others that they are worthy of the cause. its like a guy in a fight, you take away the only weapon he may have, and then stick him back without any weapon
but, right now the most effective way to change things is to get bush out and kerry in. liberals, people of color, new deal democrats, limousine-liberals and the like really need to see BEYOND Kerry. This man is not the solution, just a start. Once we get him in there, I'm gonna be fighting as hard to get his ass out of office, get someone with a plan for an America I can be proud of..
anyways....
i love the weather of late, but, I really miss the seasons, esp back in good ol missouri.
"what do you recommend for a 8 year old kid who chronically wets his bed?"
props to who can get that movie quote...
in other news, i'm tired, and i'm tired. but, no fear, I had a pretty decent day today despite the fact that i'm hella broke. but, I'm not up to my ass in bills. besides my line of credit, i'm pretty good, I think I owe best buy about $200 which i will pay off next week, I can safely say i'm good.
thats all for now..
oh yes, my room is STILL clean on the floor...yes... and the next project is cleaning and using my desk and my dresser..and utilizing my newly purchased bookshelf....

I miss sarah, but I know she'll be coming up soon.
where are my friends tonight? some at readings, some at movies, sigh.....
i'm trying not to complain, there is work I could be working on...but..you know...saturday night, just me, my computer, my ipod, and my books....
time to stop complaining... i've had a busy week...time for some me time...
see, I can turn a somewhat negative mood into a more positive mood.... just takes some time to sit here and type out my thoughts, I'll be good..
see ya'll later
oh yeah, if you didn't know already, we had about 3 lockdowns yesterday at school.
some crazy kids brought some guns to school and threatened students. apparently the bloods and grape street kids are in a little war.
funny how this never gets in the news unless someone from the suburbs is involved.....
how many kids that live in the area I teach get killed and no one knows about it? its like Iraq, there's a war going on...but we aren't privy to whats really going on out there.. at least people care about the soldiers out there ,who's caring for the kids in Watts?
well this is a bit scary/confusing/possibly just silly
its friday morning, 8 am Pacific time..
Its supposed to be 1st period history. but, there is currently a lockdown at Markham. according to some of the kids, some older Highschoolers, of the grape street gang are on campus with guns looking for some kid. its a scary thing, because right before the announcement I saw a mass group of kids moving into one direction, and it didn't look like the rush to get to class.
most likely, this will be okay. but,, it is a bit scary...
we're just patiently waiting for the announcement that the lockdown is over.
i'll update as soon as its over
as I write, my students are taking their 1st math test of the year. Adding and Subtracting integers. I always get nervous during their tests, knowing that tests are not always the most accurate measure of a student's knowledge or performance. I always use other methods to check if my students get the material, but a test is a standby. It at least gives me a deeper look into my students needs.
i've given them all the instruction I can, from charts, to acronyms, songs, to projects.... lets hope I did my part well so that they can perform well.
"i've got 99 problems but math ain't one....."
here's to my students. I hope I don't use much red ink.
UPDATE
I broke a fight up today, and tweaked my back.. this sucks
